Pausing & Travel

8/26/2025

1.Pausing - Sometimes the most powerful move isn’t pushing harder—it’s pausing.
In a world that glorifies hustle, stopping to breathe, reflect, and recalibrate can feel counterintuitive. Yet it’s in the pause that clarity emerges, creativity flows, and resilience strengthens.
A pause doesn’t mean giving up—it means giving yourself space to choose your next step with intention. 🌿
So today, I invite you to pause. Close your eyes, take a breath, and remember: you don’t always have to run to move forward.

2. Travel – Staying Well on the Go
Our long-awaited trip to Italy & Greece begins next week, and while adventure is calling, I know how important it is to stay well so I don’t miss a moment. Here are a few of my favourite travel wellness tips to make the journey smoother:
✨ Pack a large soft scarf – It doubles as a blanket or neck roll on the plane and even works as a cozy wrap in the evenings.
💧 Bring an empty refillable water bottle – Most airports have filling stations, and staying hydrated is key.
🥨 Carry snacks – My go-to homemade mix is golden raisins, dried cherries, mini chocolate chips, and almonds. (Pro tip: eat your food before landing—customs rules apply!)
🧘‍♀️ Move your body – On bathroom breaks, I add in toe raises, ankle rolls, and a quick stretch routine.
🛁 Epsom salts to go – A small ziplock bag makes it easy to unwind with a restorative soak.
🧳 Unpack when you arrive – If it’s more than a two-day stay, it helps you feel grounded and settled.
🌅 Soak it all in – Pause, breathe, and savour the air, views, and atmosphere. Notice the glimmers of joy all around you.
Travel isn’t just about the destination—it’s about how present and energized we feel along the way. 💕

Dance, Isometrics & Weights

8/19/2025

1. ✨ Dance Your Way to Wellness ✨
Movement is one of the most powerful ways to support both body and mind. But let’s be honest—if the word exercise makes you want to curl up on the couch, try dancing instead. 💃🕺
Dancing doesn’t just feel good—it is good for you. It:
  • Improves circulation and heart health ❤️
  • Sharpens focus and concentration 🧠
  • Reduces stress and anxiety 🌿
  • Releases negative emotions 💨
  • Sparks joy and self-expression 🎶
When the music plays, your brain lights up. Dancing activates your sensory and motor circuits, stimulates your brain’s reward centre, and even helps grow new neural connections. In other words—every step is a step toward healing and vitality.
So put on your favorite song, let go of perfection, and just move. Your body, mind, and soul will thank you. ✨

2. 💪 Isometric Exercise & Weight Training for Women 50+
Strength training isn’t just for athletes—it’s one of the best things women over 50 can do for long-term health.
✨ Isometric exercises (like planks, wall sits, or pressing palms together) build strength and stability without joint strain. They’re especially helpful for maintaining muscle tone and protecting against injury.
✨ Weight training adds another layer of benefits:
  • 🔹 Preserves muscle mass (which naturally declines with age)
  • 🔹 Boosts bone density, reducing osteoporosis risk
  • 🔹 Improves balance and coordination
  • 🔹 Increases metabolism and supports healthy weight
  • 🔹 Enhances confidence and daily energy
The combination of stillness (isometrics) and resistance (weights) creates a powerful recipe for aging strong, vibrant, and independent. 🌟

Strong isn’t about lifting the heaviest weight—it’s about lifting yourself up to live well.

Silence & Relationships

1.Silence
"Silence isn’t empty — it’s full of answers."
This powerful quote, though often attributed to various sources, resonates deeply with many. Silence isn't just the absence of sound — it’s a space for discovery, clarity, and connection. Here’s what it can mean:
🌿 Self-reflection
In silence, we step away from the noise of the world and tune inwards. It’s in these quiet moments that we often find clarity, insight, and the answers we’ve been searching for.
👂 Active Listening
When we listen without interrupting or rushing to respond, we give others the space to process, reflect, and sometimes uncover their own solutions. Silence can be a powerful form of support.
🍃 Nature’s Wisdom
Silence in nature teaches us to observe, feel, and reconnect. The stillness of the natural world speaks volumes — if we take the time to listen.
🧘 Spiritual Contemplation
Many spiritual traditions embrace silence as a path to deeper understanding. Whether through meditation, prayer, or mindfulness, silence can open doors to inner peace and greater awareness.
In a world filled with constant noise and distraction, silence invites us to pause, reflect, and realign. Sometimes, the most profound answers are found not in speaking — but in listening.  I was lucky enough to spend some time reflecting and listening to the river run this past week.  I found joy in the quiet moments in between the laughter and "I'm hungry" from my grandkids.  My hear is full.

2. Relationships
“The world is full of nice people. If you can’t find one — be one.” – Rumi 💛
Relationships are the heart of our human experience. But let’s be honest — when you're not feeling your best, it can be hard to seek out joy in others. We often unconsciously gravitate toward people who mirror our own energy — even when it’s low. Misery really does love company sometimes.
But here’s the truth:
When you’re feeling down, that’s exactly when you need to be around people who lift you up. Those who radiate joy, presence, and positivity can help shift your energy. Joy is contagious — and being in the presence of someone who’s tapped into their light helps you reconnect with your own. 🌟
When you nurture those “glimmers” — those small moments of joy, connection, and awe — you start to raise your vibration. And when you're living in that energy, you naturally attract more of it. That’s the version of you that shines in relationships — the one that loves, supports, and uplifts.
I’m incredibly grateful for the friendships I’ve had for over a decade (some over 40 years!). I know, without a doubt, that these people are there for me — just as I am for them.
Of course, sometimes life calls for a fresh start — moving to a new place or stepping into a new phase. Building new connections can feel like hard work at first, but it’s always worth it. 💬💕
We all need people — someone to laugh with, to cry with, to share a coffee and a hug. During my recent “rest” period, I had the chance to reconnect with two friends who always bring me joy. One was a planned overnight on our way home from the mountains, the other a beautiful coincidence in the Crowsnest Pass. My friend Kathy and I hadn’t seen each other in years, but we picked up right where we left off — two hours of coffee, laughter, photos, and deep connection. And if you are in Spokane make sure you check out Torra Tea her new restaurant.
Be the kind of friend you’re searching for. Show up with joy. And always make time for connection — especially when life feels heavy. ✨

Joy & Rest

1. Joy is happiness with a purpose.
Happiness often shows up in fleeting moments—laughing with a friend, accomplishing a goal, hearing good news. It’s beautiful, but temporary.
Joy runs deeper.
Joy isn’t just about what happens to us. It’s rooted in who we are, what we value, and how we find meaning in the everyday. It’s a steady inner current, not a passing wave.
When our happiness aligns with purpose—our why—it transforms into something more enduring.
And here’s the part I hold onto most:
👉 Joy is a choice.
Not in the sense that we ignore hardship or push away pain—but in how we show up, again and again. Choosing joy means:
  • Practicing gratitude
  • Cultivating a resilient mindset
  • Honoring what lights us up
  • Seeking what’s meaningful, even in small moments
Of course, in times of trauma or deep grief, joy may feel distant. And that’s okay. In those times, support—from loved ones, community, or professionals—can guide us gently back to ourselves.
Joy is a practice. Joy is possible.

2. Rest is not a reward. It's a requirement.
I constantly need to remind myself of this one!  We live in a culture that praises hustle and glorifies burnout. But the truth is--rest is not a sign of weakness. It's a powerful tool for clarity, creativity, and resilience.
Rest isn’t just sleep (although quality sleep is vital).
Rest is also:
  • Taking a pause between meetings to breathe
  • Saying no to preserve your energy
  • Going for a walk without your phone
  • Laughing with someone you love
  • Giving yourself permission to do nothing without guilt
  • And this week it is heading to my Uncle’s Cabin in BC where there is no cell phone coverage!
When we rest, we reconnect with ourselves.
We regulate our nervous system.
We come back to our values.
We restore our energy so we can lead, serve, and create with purpose.
You don’t have to earn your rest.
You just have to honor your humanity.
Today, give yourself the gift of rest—whatever that looks like for you.
You are allowed to slow down.  I’m off to pack up and rest by the river.

Humour & Light Hearted Leadership

1.Humour - Some people get flowers or gift cards as a farewell gift…
I got a pen—with my name on it. 💙
Why?
Because somewhere along the way, I was (lightheartedly?) accused of being a pen thief.
So, in true full-circle fashion, I now have my own personalized blue pen. No confusion, no claims, no swiping—just good humour and a memorable send-off.
Leaving with a smile, a story, and yes… my own pen.
Do you have a farwell gift story?  Share it in the comments.

2.Light-Hearted Leadership: Yes, It’s a Thing
Who said leadership has to be all serious suits and tight agendas?
Some of the most impactful moments I’ve had as a leader came with a little laughter, a lot of heart, and maybe even a pun or two (you’ve been warned).
Yes, I believe in clarity, direction, and high standards—but I also believe in the power of joy, connection, and not taking ourselves too seriously.
You can be focused and still fun.
You can be results-driven and still kind.
You can lead with strength and still sparkle (literally, if you’ve seen my shoes).
Light-hearted leadership isn’t about fluff—it’s about creating space where people feel safe to show up fully, where hard conversations happen with compassion, and where progress doesn’t require perfection.
Because when people feel lighter, they rise higher. ✨

Silence & Waves

1. 🧘‍♀️ “Silence isn’t empty. It’s full of answers.”
This powerful quote reminds us that stillness isn't a void—it’s a space where insight lives.
🌿 In silence, we reconnect—with ourselves, with others, with nature, and even with something greater than us.
✨ Here are just a few ways silence speaks:
  • Self-reflection: When the world goes quiet, we hear our own thoughts more clearly. Clarity, understanding, and healing begin here.
  • Active listening: Silence allows others to speak their truth. When we truly listen, we hold space for transformation.
  • Nature's wisdom: The stillness of the natural world teaches us to observe and appreciate life’s subtleties.
  • Spiritual contemplation: In meditation or prayer, silence becomes sacred—inviting meaning and insight to rise to the surface.
Let’s not fear quiet moments. Let’s lean into them. They might be whispering exactly what we need to hear.
🕯️ What has silence taught you? Tell me in comments below

2. 🌊 Waves aren’t silent, but they speak to our nervous system in powerful ways.
The sound of waves—whether crashing on a beach, gently rolling in a bay, or flowing from a river—can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, our body’s built-in rest and digest mode. This calming system helps counterbalance stress and anxiety triggered by the fight-or-flight response.
Here's how wave sounds help us unwind:
🌀 White noise effect: The steady rhythm of waves can mask distracting background noise and create a peaceful soundscape that helps quiet the mind.
🌊 Rhythmic comfort: Nature’s lullaby. The repetition and flow of water mirror the soothing patterns of breath and heartbeat, helping us slip into a meditative state.
🧠 Positive memory recall: For many of us, wave sounds are tied to joyful memories—sunshine, beach walks, moments of stillness. These associations can cue relaxation and emotional ease, even if we’re far from the sea.
🎥 That’s why I always record a few minutes of ocean waves when I’m in my happy place in Mexico. Just hitting play brings me back to calm. 🌴
Whether it’s background sound during meditation, while falling asleep, or to center yourself during a busy day, wave sounds can be a simple and natural way to soothe your nervous system.
🌊 Have you tried it? Let me know in the comments.

Volunteerism & Radiant Resilience

1. Volunteerism 💛
This past weekend reminded me just how powerful community can be. For the first time, I passed the torch on organizing the Summer Celebration that follows our local parade—and I’m so grateful to the new Chamber of Commerce Board member who stepped up to lead it.
Because of their leadership (and many helping hands), I got to spend the afternoon simply enjoying the festivities with my grandkids and family—a gift I truly cherished.
It takes a village to host something like this—dozens of volunteers donating 3–5 hours of their Saturday to make sure the event runs safely and smoothly. I signed up for the cleanup crew, making sure the park was spotless by the end of the day.
✨ Why volunteer?
Volunteering connects us. It reduces loneliness, eases anxiety and stress, and even contributes to a longer life. (Yes—research shows volunteers live up to 10 years longer!)
There are so many ways to get involved. If you're not sure where to start, Volunteer Alberta is a great resource. Their vision says it all: Engaged, connected, and empowered communities building a flourishing Alberta.
And if you’d like a few more ideas, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help you find a way to give back that fits your life.

Crisis Channel & Tapping

1.Your Brain Wasn’t Built for a 24/7 Crisis Channel.
Constant exposure to negative news can quietly drain your energy, elevate your stress hormones, and leave you feeling anxious or hopeless—often without even realizing it. Our brains are wired to scan for danger, so when the media constantly highlights fear, conflict, and chaos, your nervous system stays on high alert.
There is a great deal of negative news right now, especially when you are focused on it. You can stay informed without being overwhelmed.
Here are a few ways to protect your peace:
🌿 Set time limits for news consumption
📵 Avoid scrolling first thing in the morning or right before bed
🧘‍♀️ Balance input: seek out positive stories and “glimmers” of hope
📺 Choose your sources wisely—are they informing or alarming you?
You don’t owe your attention to every headline.
Guard your energy like it matters—because it does.

2.Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck in a loop of stress?
Tapping (also known as EFT) is a powerful, science-backed practice that helps regulate your nervous system and shift your emotional state—fast.
By gently tapping on acupressure points while focusing on what you're feeling, you can release emotional tension, reduce anxiety, and rewire limiting beliefs.
✨ It’s like giving your body and brain a reset.
✨ No equipment needed.
✨ Just your fingertips and a few minutes.
Whether you're preparing for a big meeting, processing grief, or calming spiraling thoughts, tapping can help bring you back to calm, clarity, and confidence.
Your emotions are valid—and they don’t have to control you. Tapping Resource
Tap into relief. Tap into you.

Beyond the Edge: Redefining Success on Your Terms
What if success wasn’t about doing more, pushing harder, or fitting someone else’s mold?
What if success looked like:
✨ Trusting your inner wisdom
✨ Setting boundaries without guilt
✨ Measuring growth by your values, not just your output
✨ Thriving—not just surviving—in leadership and life
It’s time to move beyond the edge—where burnout ends and self-defined success begins.
You don’t have to sacrifice your well-being to achieve big things.
You get to lead with clarity, courage, and joy—on your terms.

Canadian Leadership, at Its Core
Being Canadian isn’t just about where you’re from — it’s about how you lead.
We listen first, speak with respect, and act with integrity.
We honour diversity, foster collaboration, and know that strength comes from community, not control.
In a world that often glorifies hustle and hard edges, Canadian leadership shows that kindness and courage can — and should — coexist. We may be known for maple syrup and politeness,
but there’s strength, resilience, and heart behind every “eh.”
Here’s to leading with heart, holding space for others, and standing strong in values that go beyond borders.

Seeing Clearly & Tuning In

5/27/2025

1.Seeing Clearly 👁️🌿
From emails and spreadsheets to video calls and crowds of faces — our eyes are constantly taking in and sorting endless streams of information. But what if we gave them a mindful break?
Mindful seeing — simply observing without judgment or overthinking — is a powerful meditation for both the eyes and the brain. And here’s the bonus: it can actually sharpen your inner insight.
✨ Try this today:
Find a scenic spot.
Set a timer for just 3 minutes.
Gently take in your surroundings.
Watch the way the clouds move, how the light shifts, or how the leaves dance in the breeze.
Ask yourself:
🔍 If I were seeing this view for the first time, what would I notice?
💭 How does it make me feel?
🧭 How might this fresh perspective influence how I move through the rest of my day?
Sometimes clarity doesn’t come from thinking more — it comes from seeing differently. 🌄
Send me a photo of your surroundings.
#MindfulLiving #MentalWellness #SeeingClearly #MeditationForTheMind #NatureHeals #LeadershipFromWithin #Insight #Presence #JoyIsAChoice #EmbraceStillness #IntentionalLiving #MindfulMoments #EyesOpenHeartOpen

2. Slow down to tune in.
I used to list multitasking as a skill on my resume — it felt productive, like I was getting more done. But here’s the truth: multitasking isn’t actually possible the way we think, and it’s not great for your brain either.
These days, I catch myself in hyperdrive — mind racing, tasks piling up, focus scattered. Sound familiar?
So I’m learning the power of slowing down. One breath. One task. Full presence.
I tried this with folding laundry. Normally, I’m in speed mode — folding fast with a show on in the background. But this time, I slowed right down. No distractions. Just the towels, my hands, and a sense of calm. Not only did I do a better job, but I genuinely smiled at the neat stack when I finished.
🧠✨ What’s one thing you usually rush through that you could do slowly — just for 5 to 7 minutes — with your full attention?
💬 Try it. Then tell me: how did it feel in your body? Email me to share your story
